Being in the Present ( Practice Day 3)

Image
Mindful Journal: Day 3 — Being in the Present By Jaclyn Bae Being fully present is the quiet essence of letting go — the doorway back to yourself. Day 3 · Being in the Present My mind wanders so easily. It returns to yesterday’s mistakes, or rushes ahead into worries about tomorrow. And often, without realizing it, I lose the moment I am standing in now. Letting go calls me gently back to the present. The breath moving through my chest, the sunlight brushing across the window, the leaves swaying softly in the wind. When I stay here — truly here — regrets about the past pause, anxieties about the future loosen, and in that stillness, I feel fully alive again. This deliberate shift of attention is the foundation of mindfulness, a practice rooted in Eastern thought and central to modern psychology. By focusing on immediate sensory experience—the breath, the sunlight, the wind—we engage the 'present moment awareness' that anchors us. Psychologically, staying present red...

Releasing Attachment (Practice Day 2)

Image
Mindful Journal: Day 2 — Releasing Attachment (By Jaclyn Bae) When we release attachment, the heart grows light — and freedom quietly opens new paths. Day 2 · Releasing Attachment What have I been holding on to so tightly? My children? My husband? Money? Or perhaps… my idea of who I must be? I wanted my children to graduate from good schools, to have stable jobs, to live successful lives. I believed I had to achieve enough, own enough, meet the high standards I quietly built for myself. Over the years, those beliefs hardened into frames — and maybe those frames became attachments, too. The attachment we hold to rigid outcomes and idealized self-concepts is psychologically defined as 'inflexibility'—a primary cause of distress in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). When our deeply held beliefs ("I must achieve enough," "My children must succeed") harden into unyielding frames, we lose our ability to respond adaptively to life’s reality. True li...

Letting Go: A Mindful Journal (Practice Day 1)

Image
Mindful Journal: Day 1 — Letting Go (By Jaclyn Bae) Small acts of letting go create freedom within. Day 1 · Letting Go Today, unfamiliar feelings rise quietly in my heart — fear, anxiety, and a subtle tension I cannot name. In the past, I would have tried to suppress these emotions, hoping they would disappear as quickly as they arrived. But now, I choose differently. I do not push the emotions away. I simply observe them with gentle attention: “Ah… there is fear here.” When I allow the feelings to be, they loosen their grip. Like clouds drifting across a wide sky or leaves floating down a quiet river, they soften and slowly pass. This is how letting go begins — in the smallest moments, with the smallest choices. This practice of observing difficult emotions without judgment is a core principle in mindfulness-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This non-judgmental stance, often called 'acceptance,' means allowing feelings to exist wit...

David R. Hawkins (Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender)

Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender — Key Summary & Insights By Jaclyn Bae “Emotions naturally dissipate when we allow them to be instead of trying to control them.” – David R. Hawkins, Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender 📘 Key Summary of Letting Go by David Hawkins Summary by Jaclyn Bae 1. The Meaning of Letting Go Letting go is the process of acknowledging our emotions—fear, anger, guilt, grief—without resisting, suppressing, or denying them. Most suffering comes from holding on. Letting go

Letting Go — An Inner Journey by Jaclyn Bae Letting Go A story of trembling between the comfort of routine and the call to begin again — loosening what feels safe to make room for a new life. When Life Asks for Change My husband decided to step away from the work he had been doing for years. He’s not that old, and given our situation, it wasn’t a decision we could make lightly. But he felt the pull toward starting again somewhere new — toward a different life. What should he do? Where should we go? In our mid-fifties, beginning again feels risky; yet doing nothing feels equally wrong. When he first said he wanted to quit, I understood. His job had been wearing him down for so long. A new direction felt right for him. When the Ground Beneath Me Trembled But once it actually happened, anxiety rushed in. My world began to tremble. Suddenly, the later years of my life felt uncertain and fragile. He longed for change; I longed for familiarity. I wanted a gentle life — planti...

You from Mars, Me from Venus

Image
Couple Tree · Dongbaek Island, Yeosu, Korea 🌍 You from Mars, Me from Venus Marriage may be the meeting of two entirely different worlds. Our tastes, habits, and personalities couldn’t be more opposite, yet we have walked together for thirty years. And that alone feels nothing short of a miracle. We Are Truly Different He has an incredibly sharp sense of smell. If I ever try to sneak a tiny fart, he instantly asks, “What’s that smell?” Meanwhile, I have sharp hearing—I catch even the faintest sounds in the room. He eats quickly, finishing his meal while I’m still halfway through. I love vegetables; he’s a dedicated meat lover. His favorite movies are action and horror, while I adore romantic comedies. The music I love is calm—semi-classical, film scores, and songs from the ’70s and ’80s. He loves Alan Walker and even blasts music in the shower. He can’t stand the heat and always lowers the air-conditioner temperature. I suffer from cold hands and feet, so I wear soc...

Let it in, Let it out, and Let it be

🌿 Let It Be — A Song of Comfort and Wisdom A reflection on acceptance, healing, and the quiet courage to let life flow. When Life Feels Heavy and Unclear There are moments when life feels overwhelming—when searching for answers only brings more confusion. During those times, Let It Be by The Beatles arrives like a gentle whisper: “Just let it be.” Its simplicity eases the heart and offers quiet strength to move forward again. When Words Become Light Let It Be holds a rare kind of magic within its simple melody and lyrics. The phrase “Just let it be” feels like a hand placed gently over the heart—reminding us that not every problem must be solved right away, and not every burden must be carried alone.  The core psychological power of "Just let it be" lies in its call for **Radical Acceptance**—the willingness to acknowledge reality exactly as it is, without fighting it. Research shows that resistance to difficult emotions, often called **exp...
